Early Release or Casting

Premature release of the wrist

Early Release or Casting

If during the downswing your lead wrist loss the angle before ball strike, we call this Early Release, Casting or Scooping. Lossing angle of the wrist, we automatically adds loft to the club face and as a result we have loss of power and consistency. It is termed Casting or Early Release when the lead forearm and the club head are in a straight line prior we strike the ball. Scooping is when the club head passes the hands and you are trying to lift the ball more into the air. Almost 60% of amateur golfers have this swing characteristics.

We must have good wrist flexibility,  especially the right wrist good extension, the left wrist good flexion and both wrists must have ample radial deviation or hinge. Also we must have great forearm and grip strenght, because we must be able to set and hold the club properly. The Casting or Scooping  can also be caused by Over the Top  and Reverse Spine Angle swing characteristics, open club face and upper body too much toward target.
